Statistical data for Malmö's areas
This file contains statistics for a number of different variables divided by
Malmö's different areas over time.
Sources
The statistics in this database are obtained, unless otherwise stated, from
Statistics Sweden's (SCB) regional database, the Skåne database or from
Statistics Sweden's area statistical database (OSDB). The Skåne database and
OSDB show data from several different sources that Statistics Sweden has
compiled at a geographical level. The statistics only cover people who are
part of the registered population. People without a residence permit, e.g.
asylum seekers, and people who have simply not registered in the municipality
are therefore not included. Statistics Sweden does not keep statistics on
which languages residents speak, which religion they belong to or which
ethnicity or political opinions they have. Therefore, such data is not
available here either. However, the electoral authority reports election
results per constituency on its website val.se. There are statistics from the
most recent election as well as several previous elections available. Please
note, however, that the constituencies do not necessarily follow the division
of the city that is made here.
Update
The data is updated each spring as Statistics Sweden releases the figures to
the municipality. Most variables are available for the previous year. However,
income and employment data are released with an additional one-year lag. The
measurement date is, unless otherwise stated, December 31 of each year.
Geographical division
Unless otherwise stated, the data is available for Malmö as a whole and
divided into urban areas (5 each), urban districts (10 each) and sub-areas
(136 each). In addition to these, there is a residual item that contains
people who are not registered at a specific location in the municipality, have
a protected identity, etc. These people are also included in the total. In
several of the sub-areas, there are no or only a few registered residents.
Therefore, no data is reported for these areas. Examples of such sub-areas are
parks such as Pildammsparken and Kroksbäcksparken and industrial areas such as
Fosieby Industriområde and Spillepengen.
Privacy clearance
To protect the identity of individuals, the data is privacy-checked. This
means that small values are suppressed, i.e. replaced with empty cells.
However, the values are included in summaries. In general, the following
rules apply:
• No statistics are reported for geographical areas with very few residents.
• No cells with fewer than 5 individuals are reported. For data classified as
sensitive (e.g. income and country of birth), even larger values can be
suppressed.
• In cases where a subcategory (e.g. an education category) is too small to be
reported, all categories are often suppressed.
Feel free to use the numbers, but cite “City Office, Malmö City” as the
source.
